Portugal introduces new travel rules for the UK
From Monday 28th anyone travelling from the UK to mainland Portugal will have a new set of rules to follow.
The country, which is still on the amber list of travel, apart from the island of Madeira, has introduced a quarantine of 14 days.
This means that anyone travelling to the country and from the UK without two Covid jabs will have to quarantine for two weeks on arrival - and then again for 10 days on their return.
To avoid the two-week quarantine, the only way is to prove to the Portuguese authorities that you have been vaccinated by an EU approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before arriving in Portugal.
The new rules require anyone over 12 years old to have a certificate of proof before getting on any flight to the country.
Portuguese officials will only accept NAAT tests which must be taken within 72 hours of travel, or an antigen test taken within 48 hours of travel.
Additional temperature test will be conducted on anyone who looks unwell. If a temperature of 38C or over is measured, a test will be administered in the airport and release depends on the test results. You will not be allowed to leave the airport until the results have been received.
Strict rules have been introduced on who can travel to Portugal, it is advised to check before leaving. A passenger locator form will also be completed on arrival.
Exemptions to these tests include anyone who has recovered from Covid-19 in the past 90 days and anyone with two jabs, received 15 days before travel.
